In spite of the fact that the local and global methodologies share a few likenesses, they by and by utilize in a general sense various methodologies in various key territories, for example, utilizing various channels to sell items. As such, the methodologies locally direct to sell inventories chiefly in strong shops, while the universal techniques incline toward utilizing web based business, occasion advertising and advanced media. In spite of the fact that the online business strategy keenly keeps away from complex retail channels universally and the thought to accomplish long haul benefits locally appear to be sensible, Li Ning may ot accomplish such a significant number of benefits as they expected, in light of the fact that its obscure image situating may create the turmoil and confound of local individuals and its worldwide buyers may disdain Li Ning for its imitative logo and trademark which have some similarity to Nike and Adidas. It is recommended that Li Ning should hinder its extension and contribute more to raise the quality and make a few advancements as opposed to having huge inventories limited because of growing excessively quick. Likewise, to have express brand situating is essential. In any case, as Li Ning continues modifying related to the changing circumstance and making new items, it is too soon to absolutely judge whether Li Ning will have a promising future. The Distinction Of Ethics And Morality - 1307 Words
The Distinction Of Ethics And Morality: The use of the words ethics and morality are often confused with each other especially these are commonly used in Philosophy and other related fields. This paper will discuss the distinction between these two concepts. According to Gammel (2007), the difference between the terms morality and ethics has a very thin line particularly in the daily language. Adding to this confusion is that other philosophical resources and materials use the terms interchangeably but some provide a definite distinction in between them. The word ethics is derived from the Greek word ââ¬Ëethosââ¬â¢ that refers to the habits, mores, and customs of the people. On the other hand, morality comes from the Latin word ââ¬Ëmoralisââ¬â¢ that signifies nearly the same definition like ethics which was introduced by the philosopher Cicero as the counterpart to the Greek word ethos. To put clarity on this matter, the author Gammel assumed that the uniform definition of morality points out to customs wherein these are the rules of doââ¬â¢s and donââ¬â¢ts that are accepted and shared as the governing standard and regulations in their community or society. These are often the accepted basis of life lessons which are not needed to be questioned on a rational way. On the contrary, ethics is the reflection philosophically towards these rules derived from morality and the manners of living together including the habits, customs, culture, and tradition of the people. Loweââ¬â¢s started as a single store in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina in 1921 by Lucius Smith Lowe. The company went public in 1961 and quickly grew in numbers. Having a separate delivery team prepared to focus solely on these types of jobs would help ensure a better system to rely on. Also, create a process that the installers could have access to the product giving them the ability to deliver it if needed. Lastly, we would focus on the current install process. When people want to renovate many have no intention of making in a month or yearlong process. They want to start the project as soon as possible. Currently Lowes will require you to go to the store, pay for a $35 detail, and then wait for the installer to contact you within 48 hours to set up a time to get measurements. After that is finally done the measurements go back to the store so product and labor can be put together in a contract and the presented to the customer. If the customer accepts they will pay and then wait for the installer to call again to set up a time to start the install. Just getting it organized can turn into a two- week process which for many people could be frustrating. Salvador Dali, a born artist with an appetite for creativity Essay Example For Students
Salvador Dali, a born artist with an appetite for creativity Essay Salvador Dali, a born artist with an appetite for creativity, created some of the most famous surreal art pieces known to man. The Spanish artists ideas, yet extreme, caught the attention of millions of people as he experimented to push the limits of art as far as possible. Wandering into the subconsciousness of his mind he began to explore places of the mind that would be unbelievable to the typical person. Dali did this by using a method called The Paranoiac Critical Method, which he later converted to The Oniric-Critical Method. Many of his paintings can be deeply analyzed while others are a pure creation of fantasy that lack meaning or truth. I have chosen Vision of Hell and Daddy Longlegs of the Eveningaâ⠬à ¦ Hope! to analyze as the two oil-canvas paintings come from two different periods of his art career. The first, painted in the 30s, deals with his more surreal side whereas the second painting was painted near the end of his career, after he reintroduced himself to religion. The two types of paintings are most notably different in theme and style. I will also analyse, Un Chien Andalou aâ⠬ââ¬Å" The Andalusian Dog, a short film created by Salvador DalAà and Luis BuAà ±uel in 1929. Dali uses many reoccurring symbolic elements in his works. I will describe the different symbols that are used and what they represent to Salvador Dali, himself. Surrealism Surrealism is a form of art, which involves the artists to use his subconsciousness the part of the mind below the level of conscious perception. An example of the subconscious state of a person is while theyre dreaming. Surrealists base their art upon fantasy and use it as a tool to discover their mind on a higher level. They believed that a dream or thought not interpreted was like a book not read. Surrealism emerged from an earlier style of art known as Dadaism. Dadaism started as a scandal to society in order to punish them for the monstrosity of war. They believed that a society that could create war did not deserve beautiful art, so instead they created ugly art. The surrealist, Manifesto, began dominating the surrealist movement in Paris in 1924 shortly after the Dada movement. Dali joined the surrealist movement in 1930 but shortly after was looked down upon by many surrealists. They believed he was more interested in publicizing his work than the actual surrealist ideas. Slowly, two distinct groups of surrealists emerged from the surrealist movement: Automatism and Veristicism. Automatism Automatism is the way of expressing your subconscious in the way that it comes to your conscience and not making any interpretations or connections with it to the real world. These artists believe in suppressing the consciousness in favor of the subconscious. The thoughts are recorded in the painting in the way, which the images of the subconscious reach the conscience. There is no connection between consciousness and subconsciousness seen in the painting. Veristic Surrealists Veristic surrealists try to make sense of their subconscious and paint with influence from the conscious state of mind. The Paranoiac Critical Method The Paranoiac Critical Method, which was developed by DalAà in the early 30s, was simply an attempt to arrange irrational things into a way that made sense. He wanted to bring light upon the unreliability of perception, conception and understanding. Dali once described it as: A spontaneous method of irrational knowledge based on the systematic objectification of associations and delirious interpretations He states that it is just an impulsive technique, which involves breaking down the barrier of the minds way of thinking, so we can create our own perception of objects. While DalAà painted an active process of the mind would allow him to visualize images, which he would include in his painting and help him achieve his final product. Biography Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali Domenech was born in a small agricultural town called Figueres in Spain on May 11th 1904. He discovered his talents at a very unusual age and had a lot of support from his parents. They founded his first small art studio at home. He began visiting the School of Art at the young age of thirteen, where he made some of his first paintings. During the years of 1921 to 1925 he attended The San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid, where he developed his endowment. Salvador was really first recognized for his remarkable talent in a small one-man show, which took place in Barcelona in 1925. Three years later, three of his paintings were shown at the third annual Carnegie International Exhibition in Pittsburgh. This was primarily his starting foundation to his art career. In the year of 1929, he once again held a one-man show in Paris and it was during this year he met Gala Eluard, his wife to be. She became his business manager and his source of inspiration for the many years to come. Together they joined the Surrealist Movement in Paris in 1930. Dali was abolished only four years later as others in the movement noticed his that he had begun painting in a more traditional style during his visit to Italy. During the years of World War II Dali and his wife took refuge in America and waited for the war to end. They returned shortly after the war had ended and Spain was free again. Salvador continued painting, sculpting and drawing for many more years but what a lot of people did not know was that he was also a poet, fiction writer and film producer. His fame for surrealist paintings rose through the years. In his later years he became religious again as he was in his childhood years. This influenced his paintings as he took on a classical style of religious mysticism. After his wifes death in 1982, his health began decreasing. He developed heart and respiratory problems. Seven years later Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali Domenech died at a proud age of eighty-five in his home town of Figueres. Freud and Dali Salvador Dali applied Freuds psychoanalytic device of free association in order to interpret the symbolic meaning of dream imagery by painting from his subconscious. According to Freud the concept of time is a feminine symbol and Dali uses watches in his painting The Persistence of Memory. The watches, according to a Freudian analysis are closed, solid and unconquerable. In DalAà s book, The Secret Life of Salvador Dali he discusses his own anxieties of sexual dysfunction. Freud stated that trees, elevated and erect represent the male penis, but surprisingly the tree in this painting is undernourished and lifeless. This painting could represent all the sexual fears Dali has since the feminine symbol is dominating and the masculine symbol is overpowered. Reoccurring Symbols Lion Heads: Lion heads appear throughout DalAà s paintings and represent a sexual desire and curiosity, which frightened him. He gave them a grotesque and gruesome form to explain his terrible sexual fears. Lions Not only did lions represent sexual cravings but it also represented Salvador DalAà s father. With the whole lions body standing in the picture acting as an authoritarian figure, Dali felt scrutinized and guilty. Perhaps Dali was ashamed of these sexual desires of his, while his father watched over him like a hawk. Grasshoppers Dali described grasshoppers as horrible, loathsome creatures, which caused him terror. He developed this enigma as a child after catching a fish, called a slobberer. As he held this fish closer and closer to his face he realized that it had the face of a grasshopper. This was believed to be what started his puzzling fear and hate for these insects. Salvador Dali and Maurits C. Escher Comparison EssayThis experimental movie was intended to shock, horrify and confuse its audience. The purpose of this was to attempt to interplay surrealism into a movie. This short black and white film begins with the most horrific event in order to alarm us with what we did not expect. It is a warning to the viewers that this movie is going to abuse our regular way of seeing. The music accompanying the dramatic, surreal film is so polite that it seems fierce. It brings to mind the Apache dances and speaks to urges rather than expectations. It is fast paced and suspenseful. The music makes us fear what is going to happen next and question whether the scenes of events will be come more morbid than what we have already seen. The first scene features a man sharpening his razor blade. As a cloud passes the full moon in the naked sky, the man becomes over come with insanity. There comes a close up of a young ladys face as the man holds her eye open. He then slices her eye with the razor. This was the warning in the movie, telling us that what we are about to see will be absurd and unpleasant. A man looks at his ant-infested hand. Overwhelmed, he just stares at his hand. The ants in this content are trying to express the pins and needles you feel after your hand has fallen asleep. The tingly feeling of blood rushing back to your hand resembles that of ants crawling under skin, according to DalAà . The question that was asked many times before making this movie by DalAà and BuAà ±uel was how to express a feeling, visually. A man and woman look from their window to see a crowd of people swarming a severed hand. The idea of the hand falling asleep is still working here but now instead the people are the ants and they are infesting the hand. Lust over comes the man as he pursues after a young woman. It turns into a game of cat and mouse . Finally reaching the lady he begins caressing her breasts, which feel like a females buttocks with eyes shut. This is shown by the fading effect in the film, as the ladys breasts transform to her buttocks. Suddenly, to his back, is attached the remains of a dead donkey, a piano, and two monks. This resembles his baggage that he is carrying into the relationship. The dead donkey is meant to be the basis of desire and this is difficult to understand but the image of this animal is illuminated with the symbols of strength, blood and death. The piano resembles beauty, whether it is inner or outer beauty. The two monks represent the church and religion. Again we find the symbol of the hand falling asleep when the woman shuts the door on the mans hand. We see ants once again invading his the palm of his hand due to the lack of blood circulating to his hand. It is clearly stated that normal measurements do not exist in this world. In other words we cannot rely on our normal sense of perception here. We see various devices such as, a measuring tape and a watch, thrown away and made useless. The woman flees and opens another door, which used to lead to another room of the house, but now leads to the beach. She finds another man and they frolic along the beach together to happy ending or rather what we think is a happy ending. We are meant to believe that is the end, but its not. The text, In Spring appears and we see that the beach has turned into an endless desert and both the lady and her lover are buried in the sand to their chests. Comparison of Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte There is one quote made by Magritte, which makes him, and Dali seem completely opposite. Magritte explains how his paintings are a mystery and mysteries are meaningless. My painting is visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures one asks oneself this simple question, What does that mean? It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing either, it is unknowable. Magritte knows that his paintings give the impression that there is meaning and mystery behind it but that is all a charade to make you think. The picture has no mystery, for it is what it is and this is what makes Magritte different than Dali. Magritte and Dali have the same style of surrealist painting. They both use all sorts of deformed body figures and imaginary landscapes. Magrittes paintings although do not seem as complex as DalAà s. I noticed also that Magritte likes to use the lion as a symbol in a few of his paintings, only the lion does not seem to be stalking and observing but seems more domesticated. This might be a sign of strength for the painter as he has domesticated the lion, giving him power. Magritte changes his style of painting whenever he wants, sometimes using contrasting colors, such as red and green, to fill the painting, whereas Dali usually harmonizes the painting and does not use loud colors but rather softer colors. Comparison of Salvador Dali and Max Ernst Ernst, like Salvador Dali, enjoys painting decaying animals and floating objects. A lot of Ernsts paintings include only primary or secondary colors, whereas Dali would use a whole spectrum of colors. Like Dali, Ernst places his objects on an imaginary landscape. Ernst uses very basic, simple shapes and this could relate to DalAà s use of devices. Either than that it does not fully relate to DalAà s complex paintings. These two surrealist painters use two very different methods of painting. Conclusion Dali was a man who was ahead of the average thinker. He tried to enlighten us with his visions of the world. He wrote many books trying to let us into his world and his ideas, yet it is impossible to fully understand the mind of this brilliant, complicated artist. Nobody will ever know what exactly Dali was trying to portray in his paintings. Since he had let his subconscious influence his paintings and Im sure that he only understands very little of what is going on in his art. His works leave people wondering and thinking of some sense that must be in the picture. I have tried to make doing so a little clearer by explaining his way of thinking and his symbols within the paintings. I have obtained a more knowledgeable opinion on his pieces of art in relation to his thoughts and his elements in the painting. I am able to identify from which period of his life that his paintings are from by identifying symbols, themes, and style. It is undoubtedly true that Salvador Dali is a unique painter, who takes after no one else.

God And Christian Life Essays - Christian Soteriology,
God And Christian Life A healthy, vibrant, growing and happy Christian life requires a regular routine of communion with God through prayer, study His Word, and in Christian service to mankind. Like eating, sleeping, and exercising, it demands daily attention. And like our bodies, our spiritual life quickly withers and dies without spiritual food. I. Communicating Your Mind with Him The story of Enoch is a great example of a man who spent much time in prayer and communion with God. In fact He kept his mind in tune with God in every respect of his daily living?in thought, in word and in deed. To him prayer was as the breath of the soul; he lived in the very atmosphere of heaven. Because he lived so close to God, he was translated to heaven without seeing death. How can we achieve in our individual life the same holiness that characterized his, a state that will enable God to place us among the 144,000, to seal us, and to take us home with him without seeing death? Friends, only Time Alone With God will give us the experience of Enoch. The disciples had worked hard fulfilling Christ's commitment. But now after their return from their missionary journey. He invited them to retire to a quiet place with Him. They needed to enjoy not only a little rest but also a period of close communion with the Saviour. "And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while" (Mark 6:31). In the close and private setting with the future apostles, Jesus could communicate freely with them, correct their mistakes, encourage them, strengthen them for the great task they were soon to do. As did the disciples, we too require the refreshing company of the source of all power, comfort, and wisdom. Every child of God vitally needs precious moments of private communion with Him. In our hurries and worries of life, even in the work of God, every Christian must have time dedicated to his private devotions. The Master's loving reproach to the busy and concerned Martha also illustrates this point. "Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her" (Luke 10:41,42) Every one of us needs "that good part, which shall not be taken away"?to sit quietly at the feet of Jesus, like Mary, and commune with Him. But the time factor is extremely important. As Enoch spent hours alone with God, we need to devote enough time with Him. We live in an age of hurry. Many voices require our attention. And we try to do everything briefly. Our meetings, our presentations, our articles, our interviews, are short. But one thing still takes time, even in our day. To develop a love relationship we must invest time. The young man who falls in love with a girl wants to spend as much time as possible with her. As he courts her, he does not count time by the watch. Neither does she. And the more time they take to be together, to communicate with each other, the more they know each other, the more they appreciate each other, the more intense their love becomes. Friends, our private hour of devotion alone with God is an absolutely vital need. Every Christian must meditate alone and talk with his Father alone. It was during his hour of seclusion with God when Jacob won his victory, when his character received the needed divine touch and he consequently received his new name. Paul really changed the whole aim and direction of his life during the three days he spent by himself with God after his encounter with Jesus on the Damascus road. Without sight, he had enough time to mediate on the scriptures that referred to the first advent of Christ. And there he yielded completely to the Spirit's voice. During his hour of solitude with God Elijah heard the "still small voice" of the Holy Spirit speaking to his heart and bringing him courage and hope. The Spirit can communicate with us much better when everything is quiet. If we are not constant and regular in our devotional life, we are not safe. May God give us the willingness to cut out the superfluous and secondary things of life in order to dedicate more time to daily communion with God. Only then will we have the strength to win life's battles

Psychology- Counseling - Dying to be thin Essay
Psychology- Counseling - Dying to be thin - Essay Example The consequences of the disease can be seen in most aspects of the physical body, including the potential for death. The starvation, which is part of the restrictive eating that progressively lowers the body weight, can create a situation within the body from which recovery is no longer possible, the victim wasting away into death. The treatment for this disorder includes creating acceptance in order to combat the denial and health considerations that include gaining weight under the care of a doctor. The issues that bring on this disease can include traumas that include circumstances that are beyond the control of a child, thus creating the need for that child to find a way to control something in their life. The ability to control the intake of food becomes one way to assert his or her ability to have control. Another driving factor in the development of body distortion issues is the high level of media objectification of women and the way in which they are defined through standard s that few women can attain. This social pressure combines with the ideas of perfection and control in order to create the psychological stew in which the disease is formed. In addition, social networks on the internet are now providing forums through which community can be found for those who are still deluded and believe that it is a lifestyle. As well as community, dangerous tips are given about how to combat the recognition of parents and doctors of the existence of the disease within those who are suffering under itââ¬â¢s delusions. Defining Anorexia Nervosa The disease of anorexia nervosa is defined by a internalized belief that the body is not thin enough. The psychology of the victim is framed by a warped sense of their own image, a belief that their body is carrying too much weight and by controlling how much weight they carry, they will be controlling an aspect of their emotional life that is outside of their control. It is the internalized belief that through starvatio n or binging, they have grasped hold of something within their experience that has remained illusive. However, the disease is an obsession and has nothing to do with having true control over oneââ¬â¢s life. The disease will then take control, leaving all other aspects of life outside of the concerns of food intact, exercise, and the movement of the scale as it moves lower and lower. Anorexia is defined by changes in eating behaviors as they become compulsive, obsessive, and attached to perceptions of body image. The division between what is a change in diet and what is a slip into anorexic behavior is a blurred line that happens at different points for different people. The most difficult problem in identifying anorexia is that the perception of the body has become greatly distorted throughout society through the objectification of an unreasonable weight ratio through media representation. According to Lucas (2004) it is common in studies of college age women to find that half wi ll display abnormal attitudes and distorted perceptions of their bodies. This, despite its close identification with anorexic tendencies, represents a social problem as it invades the population rather than a spike in the occurrence of the disease (p. 20). In order for a diagnosis to be made, physiological and

Effects of Employee Self-Evaluation Research Paper
Effects of Employee Self-Evaluation - Research Paper Example According to the report instead of a self-evaluation from the employee, the reporter suggests an open dialogue regarding his employers' determination. Allow the employee to discuss the company's opinion of their job performance. It should be up to the company to provide reasons based on factual observations as to why a raise is or is not deserved. As the paper highlights by removing the self-evaluation element, you allow the company and the employee the opportunity to discuss the decision makerââ¬â¢s assessment of the employeeââ¬â¢s value. If clear guidelines for raises are put forth, the employee has no reason to challenge or debate the employers' conclusion. Clear guidelines eliminate thoughts of personal feelings influencing either partyââ¬â¢s' assessment. However Goal oriented raises can increase company morale as well as promote team work by giving the workers a map for success. Management evaluations may ease the anxiety of discussing my opinions to my supervisor. Not a ll positions in my department are staffed by people who feel comfortable speaking eloquently enough to promote themselves or their performance.à Things like attendance and punctuality, work load completion and the ability to meet predetermined deadlines. These can be the foundation for salary increase determinations, along with specific department heads creating goals and expectations unique to that particular departments' productivity requirements.

What constitutes an outstanding presentation instead of a mediocre one Essay Example for Free
What constitutes an outstanding presentation instead of a mediocre one Essay Presentations, are defined as the simplest collection of ideas that help persuade, inform or motivate people (Stevenson, 2002, p. 3). In the past, presentations were simply concerned with a monotonous display of bullet-point lists, to convey the speakerââ¬â¢s train of thoughts. Today, technology has encouraged a broad variety of presentation mediums: standalone presentations on the Web, loop presentations to show repeatedly at trade show booths, burning of CDââ¬â¢s of a presentation to distribute to a wide audience, adding of sound, animation, and even video to the slides (Stevenson, 2002, p. 3). The purpose of this paper is to outline what marks the difference between an outstanding, and a mediocre presentation, and to analyze the critical factors that go in the making of one. The term ââ¬Å"outstandingâ⬠doesnââ¬â¢t really convey the right impression since the overall aim of effort applied in making a presentation, is to achieve some sort of desired result. For this, we shall use the term ââ¬Å"winningâ⬠presentation for our remaining discussion. The desired result examples can be as follows (Stevenson, 2002, p. 3): 1) Outlining of timeline and deliverables of the product launch to the manufacturing team. 2) Teaching the sales force about the feature and benefit of the new product so that they can sell better. 3) To make a business case for the potential market for the new product to gain financing from investors. 4) To introduce new products to customers. So, what makes a presentation mediocre? Different communication experts have their own opinions drawn from personal experience. But, for the sake of all-inclusivity, we shall outline the most typical characteristics of mediocre presentations that not only fail to produce results, but are commonly labeled dull, dry and boring- no euphemism required for a situation where the audience is compelled to doze off because the presentation failed to capture their interest. ANR Communication Services at the University of California, have outlined Seven Deadly Sins of PowerPoint presentations (ANR, 2006): 1) Length: It is not necessary to utilize the whole time allotted, in fact the winning presentation should always aim at delivering a message as fast as possible. The common refrain is that some speakers tend to ââ¬Å"warm-upâ⬠with a windy introduction that noone bothers to pay attention to. It is always advisable to hit bottom-line directly, and come ââ¬Å"straight to the pointâ⬠. 2) Bad visuals: Bad visuals come in several categories, but their general definition lies in a sheer ignorance of aesthetics. E. g. using elaborate graphics which have no connection to the subject matter, and were included just in order to cast an impression of technical know-how. Other examples are sandwiching too much information in very little space, and using illegible fonts against an atrocious background. Other sins are: 3) Not sticking to the main point: Too many speakers have a habit of digressing from the subject, and beating around the bush, an exercise that can be really testing on the audienceââ¬â¢s patience, and defeat any chances of success with the presentation. 4) Too many numbers: Even technical presentations can do better without an overdose of figures and numbers. It is a common misconception for many people, that a bombardment of numeric data using charts and graphs would illustrate the monumental effort they put in, in order to create the presentation. Charts and graphs, and figures are meant to support some conclusion, but in no way should they be the only reason for the presentation to exist. 5) Technical failure: Too many presentations have been ruined due to glitches such as the Projector not working (that too after spending considerable time in making one presentation). It is always advisable to double-check before final show. 6) Not summarizing: If the presentation fails to summarize the key points discussed, the entire purpose is defeated because audience memory is short. The speaker needs to tell the audience what was the underlying conclusion for them having met. 7) Inadequate rehearsal: This goes with Point no. 1 and 6. Other useful ideas worth mentioning are David Peopleââ¬â¢s recollections from interactions with IBM executives (People, 1992, p. 20): 1) Showing information, and then ââ¬Å"apologizingâ⬠in advance ââ¬â it conveys the impression that the speaker is not confident about the subject matter, and kills the very purpose of presentation. 2) Not explaining any reason why the subject has any value to the audience ââ¬â such an act can convey a total disregard for audience time. In order to round up our discussion on mediocre presentations, it is important to mention common technical characteristics of such presentations (OneVision UK, 2004): 1) Slide transitions and sound effects; when unnecessary they can become a pain in the neck for they divert the focus of the audience from the central theme. 2) Standard Clip-Art which shows a clear lack of creativity on behalf of the presenter who could have done better by including more relevant graphics. 3) Presentation templates ââ¬â unless there is no other alternative, these should be best avoided. 4) Reading the presentation ââ¬â a speaker should have extempore communication skills, otherwise the presentation can be very boring. A winning presentation does not repeat the common fallacies mentioned for mediocre presentations as above. Also, a winning presentation has a persuasive style that impresses with its tone, content, representation and output (People, 1992, p. 45). To tell the difference between the two, Tom Sant from the American Management Association, reviews the scope and utility of a winning presentation, which should take into account the following considerations (Sant, 2004, p.12): 1) It is not a blind price quote. 2) It is not a bill of materials, project plan or scope of work. 3) It is not about the history of a product. The watchword, here is ââ¬Å"influencingâ⬠of client (Sant, 2004, p. 17). Each time a presentation is made, the objective is in terms of thinking about the long-term influence that the presentation will have on the client, something that requires a lot of introspection on part of the presenter. Thus, presentations should be looked at as ââ¬Å"tools and opportunitiesâ⬠(Sant, 2004, p. 17) rather than a summary judgment on a particular subject. Having clarified the differences between the two types of presentations, we shall look into the key ingredients of winning presentations. Structurally, a winning presentation comprises of two parts: the formal (one-way) episode followed by a question and answer session (two-way) (Gilchrist Davies, 1996, p. 3). As a bench rule, the presenter must allow at least 3 times the time allotted for one-way communication. This time is utilized for discussions, development of conceptual ideas, generating feedback, and general brainstorming. Also, a competent presenter is able to perform well in three areas of communication (Gilchrist Davies, 1996, p. 5): 1) Non-verbal i. e. body-language. 2) Verbal i. e. fluency of language and intonation. 3) Visual i. e. computer screens, slides and paper-based accompaniments. A competent presenter must have enough behavioral science knowledge so that he is able to control the crowd, in case a heated argument is generated. Contentwise, a winning presentation offers ample room for independent thinking, and allows plenty of flexibility in terms of omissions and adjustments. The objective is, that the presentation must ââ¬Å"flowâ⬠in terms of ideas, an exercise that builds continuous credibility for the presenter (Sant, 2004, p. 29). Thomas Leech, at the American Management Association, has identified the following guidelines to delivering a winning presentation, which he calls ââ¬Å"fundamental keysâ⬠(Leech, 2004, p. 11): 1) Prior preparation: According to several top-key executives, the biggest blunder a presenter makes when he declares that he didnââ¬â¢t prepare well. 2) Self-belief: It is important to convey ââ¬Å"sincerity and honestyâ⬠through the effort made. 3) Knowing oneââ¬â¢s purpose ââ¬â the bottom-line. 4) Having a focused central theme: The audience came with a purpose. It is important to shell out the central theme at the very start of the presentation, so that people are able to develop connections. 5) Knowing your audience and tailoring the presentation according to their needs: A presentation has to be varied depending upon the possible expectations of audience. Also, age-groups have to be taken into account. Other fundamental keys are: 6) Early summarizing for time-pressed audience. 7) Reinforcement of central belief: The central theme should be backed up with substantial evidence, to make the presentation idea seem rock-solid. 8) Visual effects: It is important to ensure that visuals add, and not blur presentations. 9) Consider Murphyââ¬â¢s Law: This is what happens in real-life scenarios. According to Murphyââ¬â¢s First Law, if anything can go wrong, it will! So, itââ¬â¢s always advisable not to take chances with defective areas of presentation. 10) Making the delivery personal and passionate: A competent presenter is always able to connect with the audience. Instead of begging the question, he tries to convince the soundness of his ideas through passionate and compelling discussions, the most successful ingredient of winning presentations. That was presentation, but from a preparation point of view, a successful PowerPoint presentation must undergo a preliminary review, keeping following things in mind (Negrino, 2005, p. 9-107): 1) Writing the presentation: It is always advisable to start with an outline of the entire content, and using features like the Research Pane to make slides. 2) Gathering images and sound files: The graphics and animation part should be done, avoiding the loopholes mentioned in mediocre presentations. 3) Picking a design: It is important to pick a slide design, apply the layouts, and adjust text location for aesthetic appeal. Other attributes are: 4) Working with text: Editing slide text, formatting slide text (font, color, etc. ), aligning slide text (left, center, justified), changing line space (again it depends on aesthetic requirements.), using numbered (bulleted) lists, adding hyperlinks and text-boxes, 5) Illustrating the presentation: This involves adding images, clip art, using the drawing tools, adding relevant diagrams, charts, tables etc. 6) Making it move: This envisages adjustments in slide order, setting slide transitions, adding custom animation and summarize slide effects. 7) Preparation: The presentation should always be reviewed by a colleague, especially if itââ¬â¢s very important. It is useful to make printed notes for the speaker, and slides and handouts to the audience. Summary: On a final note, the weight of a good presentation, apart from key points mentioned in this paper, depend a lot on the individual presenterââ¬â¢s qualities, what are known as ââ¬Å"gesturesâ⬠(Arrendondo, 1991, p. 73). It is important to state that appropriate gestures and movements add meaning to a message, and mark the difference between a ââ¬Å"winningâ⬠and a ââ¬Å"mediocreâ⬠presentation. The gestures should convey a positive energy, and enthusiasm in the subject, and be manifested through the presenterââ¬â¢s self-belief.

The Economic Effects Tourism Has on New Zealand Essay -- New Zealand T
The Economic Effects Tourism Has on New Zealand The following report provides an accurate and informative overview of the nature of tourism, its history and growth, the structure of the New Zealand industry and the impact of tourism from a New Zealand perspective. The report will draw a conclusion which Highlights area of consideration in tourism planning. Conclusion and Recommendations For New Zealand tourism has a lot to offer but at the same time, care has to be taken not to mistreat it. The social and cultural impacts of tourism on New Zealand so far have been on the whole beneficial but as tourism continues to grow this could change. Non-economic benefits of tourism are maximized when visitors and hosts share mutual interests and when trade is relatively small. However these factors limit potential tourist markets and income. One solution to this problem could be promotion of New Zealand as a high quality destination at a higher price, i.e. less tourists spending more money. New Zealand tourism is largely reliant on 'Eco-tourism' so to maintain the tourism industry it is imperative that our environment is conserved. However tourism itself can have negative effects on the environment. The tourism sector must act responsibly in its use of the environment and any use must be sustainable. It is the economic effects of tourism which bring the most benefit to the host nation. Tourism is a low import user which means more of the money earned here stays here. The government is earning money through tourist taxes such as the airport tax, increased export earnings and income tax revenue from people employed by the industry. A balance must be struck between these benefits and associated negative impacts on the community and the environment. If New Zealand is to see more growth in tourism we must try and make the country more attractive to visit. More flights, low visa requirements, favorable exchange rates are all facilitators that will make New Zealand more appealing. With a high level of promotions overseas that will motivate tourists to think of our country as a destination which will be able to satisfy their needs. The Nature of Tourism There is not really a universally accepted definition of tourism. In 1994 the World Tourism Organization (WTO) revised its definition. It says the tourism comprises of 'the activities of persons travelli... ...ourism has an influence on most areas of society, employment, environment, health, economic stability and quality of life. Therefore it is the concern of governments, the public sector, is to ensure the negative consequences is minimized. At the 1968 UN Conference on International Travel and Tourism it was made clear the government intervention and management is required for the smooth running tourist activities between countries. In New Zealand the biggest participants in creating the creating the tourism product are from the private sector, that is individual operators like airlines, accommodation chains, attractions and tour operators. These sectors have their own organizations. For example hotels are represented by the Hotel Association of New Zealand (HANZ). The sales sector has groups like the travel agents Association of New Zealand or the Inbound Tourism Organizations Council. In Turn they all feed into the New Zealand Tourism Industry Association (NZTIA). The NZTIA can then represent their interests to the New Zealand Tourism Board (NZTB) , which is the country's national tourism Organization, or the ministry of commerce, which is responsible for tourism legislation.
